The Indian state of Himachal Pradesh is focusing on health and adventure tourism to cater to demand from visitors who are looking for these types of holidays. Adventure tourism in the area includes activities like trekking, mountain biking, para-gliding, ice skating, skiing, river rafting, heli-skiing, and car rallies. More of these packages are being offered in the state then ever before.

Health tourism is still a relatively new concept but a government-sponsored tourism development corporation has been working on health resorts that provide 'Panchkarma' (ayurvedic therapy) treatment at hotels in Shimla, Palampur and Chail. Himachal has seen increased tourism from other parts of India, with many tourists seeking budget accommodations. Adventure tourism, religious tourism, heritage tourism, rural tourism and eco-tourism are some of the main areas of growth which the government hopes will boost employment for rural youth in the state.
